Use ‘the pink stuff’
My number one recommendation would be to use the pink stuff or a similar product type when you find stains and build up that you’re unable to remove with wiping or scrubbing with general cleaners. They can completely transform a toilet seat that seems to be hopelessly discoloured and can save needing to do a complete replacement.
Hinge cleaning
Dirt and residue collect in the small gaps, which can cause the connection point to look unsightly and even become stiff. I train cleaners to remove seats completely because it allows access to corners that are otherwise impossible to reach.
Avoid bleach splashes
When cleaning, make sure bleach stays within the toilet bowl, as otherwise a splash can leave a pale patch that cannot be blended back in. To use bleach sprays outside of the bowl, make sure they are not left on for too long and thoroughly wiped.
