Floor cleaners
Most floors do not need commercial cleaners, especially when warm water and a dash of soap does wonders for most surface types. Commercial cleaners can leave residue that builds up and becomes sticky over time. I even recommend mixing in a drop of your favourite essential oil to have the space smelling amazing.
Wood cleaning sprays
Many wood sprays are marketed as nourishing and restorative but surprisingly can actually damage the wood finish and dull and discolour the wood appearance. I recommend picking carefully when deciding how to protect your high end wood furniture!
Air fresheners
Air fresheners add chemicals to the air to tackle odour when good ventilation can do that job just as well if not better.
Disposable surface wipes
Disposable wipes create both waste and residue. A high quality microfibre cloth with the right cleaning solution cleans better, costs less over time and is more environmentally friendly.
Off brand vacuum bags
They seem like a clever idea to save lots of money, but poor-quality bags let dust particles escape into the main chamber of the vacuum and can clog the motor and damaging the vacuum.
Re-usable mops
Quick mop pads are great when you need a fast wipe, but can’t get into grooves and deep clean floors. For an actual clean, especially where dirt settles in textured flooring, a proper mop or steamer is far more effective.
Furniture cleaning sprays
Many mainstream sprays can make dust cling to the surface, so that furniture becomes dustier again faster.
